Programmatic Learning

Disruptive Insights: Programmatic Learning

This paper explores the disruptive forces in programmatic learning. It’s a relatively new term, but programmatic learning is rapidly becoming an important part of the learning mix. Hybrid working requires high value learning programmes, such as onboarding and leadership development, to become seamless digital experiences.

What is Programmatic Learning?

During the pandemic, all learning had to become digital or it didn’t happen, resulting in a massive acceleration in the use of online learning for almost everything. Whilst this might have been effective for simpler topics and compliance learning, it wasn’t for complex development needs or strategic programmes.

Often cohort-based, and running over extended periods, programmatic learning builds understanding through peer-peer interaction, expert facilitation, feedback and assessment. In a world of hybrid working and learning, every company needs programmatic learning too – but most learning systems are poor at managing it or delivering the kind of learner experience needed to make (what is arguably your most important learning) a success.

Read the paper to find out about:

  • Why most high value development and learning programmes will remain online

  • What makes a good learner experience when most of the learning is not experiential rather than content

  • Why most LMSs and LXPs are unable to manage cohort-based learning, and who is able?
