The importance of measuring ROI in learning
Building an irresistible business case for learning and development: Budgets will be facing increased scrutiny in the year ahead as economic prospects remain gloomy. And learning budgets are no exception – often they are the first to be frozen or cut. So, as a leader of learning and people development, how do you build the business case to ensure learning and development is a priority budget, and one that can continue to grow, even in the harshest of economic climates?
Economic downturns lead to the increased scrutiny of L&D budgets. Historically, learning has been one of the first budgets to feel the impact of cuts in response to economic downturn and stagnation and early indications for this year appear to be following that pattern. To provide some comparison to previous years – the number expecting their spending on learning to decrease in the year ahead has swelled eightfold.
